In this Plok review / retrospective, I talk about Plok! The Exploding Man! Where he came from, his peak in the 90s and his downfall, and what he's up to these days. The poor lad just couldn't catch a break!

While Plok seemed to be the next big heavy hitter with some fantastic reviews critics and audiences alike, the timing of his release couldn't've been worse, with his game unfortunately getting outshined by Super Mario, Sonic The Hedgehog and yes...even Bubsy The Bobcat. Curse you Bubsy!! If only Plok could get a second chance on modern platforms, with a port, remake or even an entirely new game! There are so many things to love about this game, from it's amazing sense of humor (that's actually, y'know, funny!), it's banging soundtrack (seriously just listen to the Plok OST and your ears will thank you) (Plok Boss and Beach are GOATS) and addicting gameplay mechanics. All this coupled with some of the best control I've ever felt in a game, Plok definitely gives Mario and Sonic a run for their money in that department!

Plok is a 2D platformer released in 1993 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), created by Jon and Ste Pickford, developed by Software Creations and published by Tradewest / Nintendo / Activision. This unique game follows Plok, a hooded character and self proclaimed ruler of the Akrillic Island. After his precious flag goes missing, a wave of fleas infest the island spawned by the Flea Queen. Now, Plok immensely dislikes fleas, so he's not going to stand for this, so he takes it upon himself to rid Akrillic of these filthy critters, and you're the one who's gonna help him!
Unfortunately as his game was seen as a commercial failure, all future plans for ports and future sequels were unfortunately canceled.

Nowadays Plok is the star of his own comic book series, the Plok Comic! You can find it on the Pickford's website here:
